Thoughts on 2017 Initiatives from JCCA President Judy LeFave
It’s hard to believe that the JCCA is now entering its 35th year serving to make a stronger Johns Creek Community. We’ve had tremendous highs, a couple of lows, and a whole lot of wins that pushed the City further than we ever could have imagined.
Do you see the changes?
It’s safe to say that your voice was instrumental in the City Council races, on various City zoning cases and in City development meetings. It’s not because I went to this meeting, or that meeting–it’s because you used your voice to articulate the changes you wanted to see in Johns Creek. Then, the JCCA Board of Directors, began to implement and put a plan in action that not only caused change–but informed you to make decisions that was of benefit to your neighborhood. I’m proud that we have offered pool safety, river safety, HOA leadership and legal workshops.
So where do we go from here?
The Board of Directors has committed to initiatives that involve our members. Make plans for us to hear your heart on a variety of matters in the City. We know you have an opinion on the issues–and we’re ready to listen and act. There are many opportunities for YOU to get involved and help to shape the future of Johns Creek. We look forward to working with you this year!

JCCA Installs 2017 Board of Directors
The JCCA has installed their 2017 Board of Directors and are ready to serve the community. The vote and installation process was held on Jan. 24, 2017 and all board members made a commitment to bring new programs and outreach to the citizens of Johns Creek.
The 2017 Board of Directors includes many of those who served in 2016, and welcomes new director Mark Venco of St. Ives. The following board positions for 2017 are: Judy LeFave, president; Kirk Canaday, vice-president; Kathleen Field, secretary; Michael Pelot-Hobbs, treasurer; Scott Sanders, board member; Chris Coughlin, board member; and Mark Venco, a new board member from the St. Ives community.
“We have built a cohesive group that desires to serve the community through the JCCA,” said third year JCCA president Judy LeFave. “We’re already planning new programs and workshops that will only help the HOAs in Johns Creek to continue to flourish and strengthen our beloved community.”
Some of those programs include: the Board 101 Series, Pool Safety and HOA Insurance Workshops.The first workshop for 2017 will take place in late February.

Johns Creek Moves to Widen Abbotts Bridge Road

The Johns Creek City Council has approved a contract to allow the Georgia Department of Transportation to acquire right of way and easements needed to widen Abbotts Bridge Road.
The contract is for the purchase of right of way along Abbotts Bridge Road, also known as S.R. 120, between Parsons and Medlock Bridge roads. Abbotts Bridge Road from Jones Bridge to Parsons roads is currently under construction while the segment between Medlock Bridge Road to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard is currently under design, the city notes.
The current mile-long project under construction would widen the highway as well as add a center turn lane. It also calls for including landscaped medians and 10-foot-wide pedestrian trails on each side.The Jones Bridge-to-Parsons Road section is expected to be completed by the fall 2017, weather permitting.

Get Involved with Johns Creek’s Comp Plan
The City of Johns Creek will begin the process of updating the Comprehensive Plan this fall. The plan, adopted in 2008, includes the City’s vision for the future and strategies for achievement, encompasses transportation planning, policy objectives, future development, issues and opportunities, long-range activities and more.
Get connected and get involved! There will be several opportunities for the community to provide input and feedback throughout the next several months.

The City Needs Your Help!
Dear JCCA HOA Member,
At the JCCA we always try to engage our members as soon as we hear about new issues/projects that arise within the City of Johns Creek. Since the City was established ten years ago, most of the issues brought to the JCCA have involved zoning regulations, which is part of the City’s Comprehensive Plan.
According to Georgia State law, the Comprehensive Plan must be reviewed every 10 years. The Comprehensive Review is currently under review and will be updated with new zoning regulations that will affect how our city is developed between now and 2027. Some development projects being discussed include: an increase in higher density housing (apartments, condos, townhomes), the redevelopment of major intersections, a new town center at one of four potential sites, and more.
As a JCCA member and a homeowner within your community, we ask for your involvement in this process. Please take the time to respond to the survey posted by the City of Johns Creek, which requests citizen input as they establish new guidelines which will remain in effect for the next 10 years.
To date, only 300+ citizens out of 80,000+ residents have responded. We need everyone’s involvement in order to have a viable sampling from our residents in order to develop our city in a manner that our families can enjoy. Leadership Johns Creek Seeking Applicants for Class of 2018
Are you interested in learning more about Johns Creek? Are you motivated by challenges? Are you passionate about serving and giving back to the community in which you live or work?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then you are a candidate for Johns Creek’s adult leadership program. Leadership Johns Creek (LJC) is currently seeking applicants for the Class of 2018. The nine-month program is scheduled to begin in September with an anticipated twenty-five member class.
Please join us at one of the information sessions to be held at the Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce on February 6, March 2, March 30 and April 11 at 5:30 p.m. to find out more about program participation and sponsorship.
The information session will last approximately 45 minutes consisting of an overview of the program, requirements, expectations and a Q&A opportunity with LJC alumni and Board members. Attendees at the session are under no obligation to apply for the program.

JCCA City Council Statement on Billboards
The City of Johns Creek fought to keep billboards out of our community. We fought the battle all the way to the Georgia Supreme Court, but unfortunately, we lost that legal battle which forced the City to enter into settlement negotiations with the billboard companies.
The goal of the negotiations was to mitigate the effects of the court ruling. Today, we are faced with the unfortunate reality that up to ten billboards are going up despite the City’s efforts, but this number could have been much larger without the settlement agreement.
Everyone in Johns Creek is upset to see these billboards going up, including your Mayor and City Council members. As much as we would like to change the present billboard situation, we cannot change the legal dictate imposed on us or the settlement agreement without putting the city in legal jeopardy. All we can do now as a city and as a community is to move forward together to do the best for Johns Creek that we can.

Emory Johns Creek Hospital to Offer Free Health Screenings

Free health screenings will be offered to women including: glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index during the event, which is slated for 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at the hospital.
Clinicians will also be on hand to educate women about breast health, cardiovascular disease and signs of stroke and heart attacks. Jennifer Graham, NP, Emory Heart and Vascular Center; Maria Piraner, MD, diagnostic radiologist, director of the Center for Breast Care at EJCH; and Patricia Yugueros, MD, chief of plastic surgery at EJCH, and will hold a panel discussion about trends in women’s health at 6 p.m.

Johns Creek Named One of the Safest Cities in Georgia
Because of Georgia’s effort, it’s no surprise that 75% of last year’s safest cities stayed in the top twenty once again.
This year, the fifty safest cities in Georgia are being recognized, all of which reported fewer than forty total violent and property crimes per 1,000 people, according to the 2015 FBI crime data.
Although Georgia has a slightly higher crime rate than the national average, 58% of Georgia’s safest cities have lower property crime rates and 88% reported lower violent crime rates than the national average. Read more here.
